Secrets To Dining At a New Restaurant
Let's raise a glass to those restaurant trips that leave us wanting more. When dining out, these are the tips that’ll ensure you always have the best experience possible.
Sit at the bar, it's like being at the theater
That’s the front row for a restaurant, especially if it’s a smaller space. By sitting at the bar, you get a bird’s eye view of the restaurant, you can watch bartenders construct cocktails, and you’ll secure the first glimpse at foods straight from the kitchen!
Research the menu and specials on the restaurant site and Instagram
That way you’ll have a better idea of what to expect (in terms of flavors AND prices).
Read the menu, and ask all the questions!
An ingredient you're not familiar with? Ask! Wondering the best combo for your appetite? Ask!
Go for the special
A restaurant’s special menu gives you a sense of where their strengths lie and the dishes they’re confident in.
Pre-dine and pre-game your dinner
If you’re going out and the place is pricey, have an “appetizer” at home. Throw a sweet potato in the oven, shove it down, and order one less small plate while you’re out. Also, if you’re taking public transit or ride-share, have a pre-dinner drink at home to stave off ordering “just one more” at the bar. ONLY do this if you’re traveling via public transit or ride-sharing--NEVER drink and drive. Not even a sip. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
Two restaurants I mention in this episode:
Endswell, a French-American Bistro in Brooklyn, New York (try the pan-seared salmon!)
Lowerline, a Cajun restaurant and oyster bar in Brooklyn, New York (try the mufaletta!)
